Chajes, Tzevi Peretz

   Galician rabbi and scholar, grandson of Tzevi Hirsch Chajes. He taught at the Collegio Rabbinico Italiano in Florence. In 1912 he was appointed chief rabbi at Trieste. From 1918 until his death he was chief rabbi in Vienna. He served as chairman of the Zionist Actions Committee from 1921 to 1925. He published studies of biblical exegesis, archaeology, the Talmud, and Hebrew poetry.
